With Biddulph, Staffordshire and indeed the whole country remaining in lockdown, the nation has found itself waiting for the Coronavirus vaccine to be administered to as many people as possible in the hopes that restrictions will be lifted.

Luckily, the vaccination programme is now well underway, with many thousands of people being given the vaccine every day.

But how many people have been vaccinated so far in Staffordshire?

The latest figures show that over 80,000 people in the county have had their first dose of the vaccine, and over 92,000 doses have been given in total - meaning around 12,000 people have also had their second dose.

46% of people to be vaccinated in the county are over the age of 80.

It's hoped that around 750,000 people in Staffordshire will be given the vaccine eventually, meaning the county is just over 10% of the way towards that target so far.

On a national level, the Government says almost 2 million people were vaccinated in the last week alone, and a total of 4.6 million people have received the jab so far since the start of the vaccine's rollout.

However, the Prime Minister has said it is "still too early" to say when restrictions could be lifted after another all time high of daily Coronavirus deaths was recorded yesterday, with 1,820 people dying within 28 days of a positive test.

The Government will need to continue its rate of 2 million vaccines a week if it is to reach its target of vaccinating all of its top priority groups - the over 70s, the extremely clinical vulnerable and health and care workers - by mid-February.
