Karen Bradley: "Many have written to me with concerns about support for Afghanistan"

Karen Bradley: In this week's column on Nub News, the Moorlands MP has discussed the Government's plans to support the people of Afghanistan.

Many of you have written to me recently with your concerns about the situation in Afghanistan.

The Prime Minister set out to the House of Commons last week the Government's five point proposal to work with international partners on a shared plan to support the people of Afghanistan and contribute to regional stability and the Government is continuing to provide the necessary support to repatriate British nationals and resettle Afghan staff who put their lives at risk to support the UK.

We are also hosting G7 summits to coordinate the international response, doubling the amount of humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan to £286 million, creating a new legal routes for up to 20,000 Afghan refugees to be resettled in the UK (in addition to existing routes already in operation), and urging our allies to hold off on prematurely recognising any new regime and take a unified approach to Afghanistan.

Last Monday, self-isolation requirements ended for double-jabbed people and under-18s and I know that many of you will be pleased that instead of quarantining for 10 days, those who are double vaccinated will be advised to take a PCR test if they have come into contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

The success of our vaccine programme allows us to continue taking steps towards normal life including the announcement that all young people aged 16-17 are now being offered a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine which will give them vital protection against the virus before they return to school in September.

I recently spoke on Moorlands Radio about jabs for young people and urge all eligible young people in the Moorlands to get your jabs as soon as you can so we can continue to live safely with this virus and enjoy our freedoms.
