Karen Bradley votes against free school meals motion backed by Marcus Rashford
Moorlands MP Karen Bradley was one of 322 MPs to vote against a motion to extend free schools meals over the school holidays.
The bid was tabled by Labour, but was voted down by Conservative MPs by 322 votes to 261 - a majority of 61.
The free school meals scheme will now continue to only be run during term time.
The motion was backed by England and Manchester United footballer Marcus Rashford, who's campaign to end child food poverty recently saw him awarded with an MBE.
Reacting to the vote, the footballer said: "We must start working together and unite to protect our most vulnerable children."
Only five Conservative MPs rebelled against the Government to vote in favour of the motion - these being Caroline Ansell, Robert Halfon, Jason McCartney, Anne Marie Morris and Holly Mumby-Croft.
Elsewhere locally, Congleton MP Fiona Bruce, Newcastle-under-Lyme MP Aaron Bell, Stoke-on-Trent South MP Jack Brereton, Stoke-on-Trent Central MP Jo Gideon, and Stoke-on-Trent North MP Jonathan Gullis - all of whom are Conservatives - voted against the motion.
In England, about 1.3 million children claimed for free school meals in 2019 - about 15% of state-educated pupils.
