The planned locations have now been revealed for five upcoming community orchards to be planted in Biddulph.

Biddulph Nub News reported previously how the district council announced that it would be planting 30 orchards around the Moorlands, with five of these coming to Biddulph.

Leek and Cheadle are also getting five orchards each, with the remaining 15 spread across the parishes.

However, the orchards were a subject of debate back in June, when it was claimed by several district councillors that local communities had not been consulted on their locations.

Despite this councillors voted to continue with the community orchards scheme in the same way as it has previously been carried out.

Biddulph Town Council revealed the locations of Biddulph's upcoming community orchards last week.

A spokesperson said: "Biddulph Town Council has been working with officers at Staffordshire Moorlands District Council to choose suitable sites for planting orchards in the town; five have been suggested."

The five locations are:

- Biddulph Grange Country Park

- Dorset Drive

- Mill Hayes Playing Fields

- Near the Leisure Centre playground

- Newpool Meadows

Also, an orchard has already been planted near the Village Hall at Biddulph Moor.

A spokesperson for Biddulph Town Council added: "Traditional orchards were often the centre of village life, a cornerstone of the rural economy and excellent places for people to come together to plant and cultivate local and unusual varieties of fruit trees.

"They can also provide a green haven in which to relax and wind-down. Orchards can also become an attractive habitat for insects, birds, bees and small mammals.

"The hope and expectation is that communities in the areas of the orchards will help with planting and later care for the trees.

"It will take a few years before the orchards become fully productive but then they will provide a supply of fresh fruit for anyone who wishes to and is able to pick for themselves.

"They will also provide a pleasant addition to our green areas and will hopefully be valued both by the community and the local flora and fauna.

"If anyone is interested in being involved with this initiative please contact Biddulph Town Council on 01782 498480, email [email protected] or call into the Town Hall reception."
