Man arrested as armed police attend "bomb threat" at Royal Stoke Hospital

A man has been arrested after police were called to a bomb threat at Royal Stoke University Hospital early this morning (Monday, 26th July).

Armed police were called to the hospital at around 6am and conducted a "thorough search".

A 39-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent was arrested and remains in custody, and officers say the bomb threat issue has now been resolved.

Police say that they will maintain a presence at the hospital to provide reassurance.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "Officers were called to the Royal Stoke Hospital shortly before 6am this morning following reports of a bomb threat.

"Firearms officers were deployed immediately and a cordon was put in place.

"A 39-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent was arrested and remains in police custody.

"The issue was resolved shortly after following a thorough search. A uniformed presence remains in the area to provide reassurance."
