Students at a Biddulph school will not return to lessons until September following a new positive Covid case.

Year 7 pupils at Woodhouse Academy were told to self isolate until 17th July after the positive case was recorded.

The summer term is due to end on 16th July, meaning the affected students will not return to school until after the summer holidays.

It unfortunately means that the students will miss an end of year trip to Alton Towers and their sports day.

With school bubbles due to end in the next school year, it could be one of the last local incidents of schoolchildren being told to isolate in this way.

The school's principal, Deborah Farr, said: "We have had notification that the case reported earlier in the week, using a lateral flow test, has now been confirmed by a PCR test.

"I know that this will cause upset for families and it is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you, following what has been an already difficult year for year seven.

"We have followed the national guidance, contacted the local outbreak team, and as the case has now been confirmed, the isolation period will end on the morning of Saturday, July 17 for those who started isolating on Wednesday, July 7."
