21-year-old arrested on suspicion of arson after Biddulph house fire

A man has been arrested following a house fire in Biddulph.

Police were called at 6.18am this morning (Wednesday 5th January) to Queen's Drive.

Officers attended along with firefighters from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

No one was hurt and all residents were accounted for.

A 21-year-old man from the Stoke-on-Trent area was arrested a short time later on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

He remains in police custody while inquiries continue.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service added: "Fire fighters have tackled a house fire in Biddulph this morning (Wednesday 5 January).

"Crews were called to Queen's Drive at around 6.15am.

"Firefighters from Biddulph, Hanley and Sandyford attended as did Staffordshire Police and paramedics.

"Upon arrival, crews found a fire on the first floor.

"Four breathing apparatus and one hose reel was used to extinguish the fire.

"All occupants were accounted for and a woman was treated at the scene by paramedics.

"An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing with officers from Staffordshire Police."
