Volunteers and councillors planted 95 trees over the weekend as part of a project to create a set of beautiful new community orchards in Biddulph.
Nub News reported previously how residents were encouraged to volunteer for a planting day after five community orchards in Biddulph were approved by the district council.
Biddulph residents had the chance to help bring the orchards to fruition at a planting day yesterday (20th February).
A spokesperson for Biddulph Town Council thanked all those who offered their help.
They said: "Thank you so much to this incredible group of people - 95 orchard trees planted across three sites in Biddulph. It was muddy work, but well worth the effort!
"Our thanks to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council for providing the trees and for the ongoing support from volunteers who made sure they went in before the end of the planting season. Lots more planting ahead of us in 2022!"
Cllr Nigel Yates, who was one of the councillors helping to plant the orchards, commented: "Smashing morning spent planting three new community orchards at Biddulph Valley Park (Moorland Road), Halls Road Playing Fields and Biddulph Grange Country Park. A great team of willing volunteers."
The five orchard locations in Biddulph are:
- Biddulph Grange Country Park
- Dorset Drive
- Mill Hayes Playing Fields
- Near the Leisure Centre playground
- Newpool Meadows
Also, an orchard has already been planted near the Village Hall at Biddulph Moor.
