Plans have been submitted to seek permission for cutting down on the height of two chimney stacks on Biddulph High Street because they posed "a danger to the public".

A planning application has been submitted to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council to reduce the height of two chimney stacks atop the High Street's Conservative Club building.

The aim was to make the two chimneys, which are located at the north and south ends of the building, around 50cm shorter each.

However, the application form also states that the work has already been carried out, meaning this is a retrospective application.

If the application is refused, the district council could require the chimney stacks to be returned to the way they were before the work was carried out.

The plans state that the pair of chimney stacks were "in a dangerous state of repair".

The proposal, submitted by a Mr Mike Robinson, asks permission for: "The Reduction in height (approx. 500mm) of two chimney stacks to the north and south ends of the building.

It adds: "The reason for this change is to make safe and secure the same, because they were in a dangerous state of repair and a danger to the public."

As the plans have only been submitted little information about them is available at this time, but we will be sure to update you in the next few weeks.

The district council will have the final say on the application at a later date.
