The decision on whether to approve plans to build an Aldi store in Biddulph appears to have been delayed with the application absent from next week's Staffordshire Moorlands District Council planning meeting.

The application was initially scheduled to be considered at a planning meeting today (15 October), but last week a spokesperson for the district council told Nub News that it had been rescheduled for next Thursday (22 October).

However, the recently published agenda for next week's meeting does not feature the Aldi store among the eight applications up for consideration.

The German supermarket giant submitted an application to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council in June to build a new store on the site of the former Meadows Special School off Tunstall Road.

Biddulph Nub News has contacted the district council and Aldi to enquire about the delay to the decision.

The issue of the store was discussed at this week's virtual meeting of Biddulph Town Council, in which councillors were informed the supermarket chain has not got back to them on their proposals to allow access by bus to the proposed site.

Town councillors were also keen to stress that they were not behind any potential delays in the decision-making process and had endorsed the building of the store.

Biddulph mayor, Cllr John Jones, said: "It's worth reinforcing that the council are very keen to expedite and make it happen. It's certainly not down to Biddulph Town Council."
