Changes are coming to the exterior of Biddulph Bowling Club after planning permission was granted to undertake work on the building.

The Congleton Road club have been granted permission to upgrade their building's open verandah and turn it into a closed verandah.

This will be achieved by infilling the timber clad metal posts with UPVC windows.

The bowling club was granted permission by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council's planning officers this week.

In a report deciding on the application, planning officers felt that the proposals would represent an "adaption and improvement" to the building.

They also agreed that the work would "enhance recreational and community facility and opportunity".

The report states: "An adaption and improvement to meet the needs of an established recreational group in the centre of Biddulph complies with those development plan strategies and policies listed above that provide support for development which enhances and delivers recreational and community facility and opportunity.

"There is no discernible harm to the character and appearance of the building or the area, or neighbouring amenity, that would weigh against those prevailing benefits."
