A Biddulph boy who has been growing his hair for three years in order to donate it to a charity that provides wigs for young people who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment or other illnesses is to finally have it cut at a local barber's this weekend.
Nub News reported previously how 12-year-old Zach has been growing his hair since 2019. This weekend, he is finally having it cut so the hair can be donated to the Little Princess Trust.
Zach will be having his hair cut at 5pm on Saturday at Colour Code in Brindley Ford, and people have even been invited to go along and support him!
Zach and his mum Kerry Hughes are also fundraising for local charity Douglas Macmillan hospice, who cared for Zach's grandmother before she passed away.
Kerry told Nub News previously about her son's amazing fundraising efforts.
She said: "My son Zach decided to grow his hair in 2019 for the Princess Trust charity.
"After hearing a story on the radio about the work the they do for children who have sadly lost their hair through illness, he turned towards me and asked if he could grow his hair and donate it so a little girl can have hair again.
"I looked at him and said he could do it if that's what he wanted to do. He said it was so sad that children have to go without hair when everyone could grow their hair and donate it to them."
She added: "He went through a bit of stick at school, with people saying he looked like a girl, but he stuck to his word and carried on explaining to kids why he was doing it.
"So here we are three years on and it's time to have it cut, which will be sometime in May.
"He has now also decided to ask for donations to raise money for the Dougie Mac charity that cared for his Nana before she passed. We are so proud of Zach - he's a little angel who always thinks of others.
"Please if anyone could spare any money, it would make his day if he could reach his target."
Zach was aiming to raise £500, but he has now smashed that target, raising over £750 so far.
