Students at Biddulph High School have been told to isolate once again after a new Coronavirus outbreak at the school.

Parents and pupils were informed in a letter yesterday (Sunday) that three Year 9 students at the school tested positive for the virus, meaning all students in the year group have had to isolate for 10 days.

Those students will return to school from Tuesday, 29th June if they are feeling well.

In an urgent update a spokesperson for the school explained that the priority was keeping students safe and minimising disruption.

They said: "Urgent update: we have had a small outbreak of Covid 19 in our school community.

"Please can you check your email if you are the parent of a year 9 student as there is a letter requiring your immediate attention. All close contacts have been informed individually.

"It is essential that all students complete their test at home today to try to prevent further spread of the virus. Any positive cases should be reported to school immediately and a PCR booked.

"Our priority is to keep everybody safe and to minimise disruption to school. Please be reassured that most children suffer only minor symptoms or are asymptomatic."

It is the latest of several positive cases recorded at Biddulph High School, as well as a range of other Biddulph schools, over the last year.

Biddulph Nub News reported recently how the school has once again made masks compulsory for students, with the school explaining that the decision was made due to a rise in cases of the Indian variant (also known as the Delta variant).

Meanwhile in Leek a significant outbreak of the Delta variant has been ongoing over the last two weeks, with over 1,000 students being told to self isolate and around 100 cases of the variant being confirmed in the town.
