Many thanks to Ian Barber from Biddulph Male Voice Choir for submitting this article! Ian has spoken about the choir's latest news and how people can get involved!
As part of the choirs AGM held on 22nd September, choir members Bill Bennett and Mike Collett were presented with their prestigious long service awards for15 years service with the choir. Well done to both of them, and here's hoping there are many more songs to be sung yet! Founded in 1922, the choir has over the years, presented many concerts both in the United Kingdom and abroad, raising a considerable amount of money for various charities at home and abroad in the process. Next year 2022 marks the centenary of the choir and makes us one of the oldest Male Voice Choirs in the UK (the choir that is, NOT the choristers!). Planning for this event is in full swing, and it looks like being a very busy year for the choir. Anyone interested in hiring the choir for a concert next year should, therefore, contact the choir as soon as possible on [email protected] or contact any choir member. Biddulph Male Voice Choir has a long reputation of promoting the benefits and values of Male Voice Singing. We are always keen to bring in new choristers to the choir and will consider suitable new members at any time. Whether you are tenor, baritone or bass we would love to hear from you. The choir normally rehearses every Wednesday evening between 7.00pm and 9.00pm at Biddulph High School, Conway Road, Knypersley, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire ST8 7AR . We perform a wide variety of popular music for all ages. So why don't you come along and hear us? You will be given a warm welcome. If you want to be part of our next successful 100 years, then please contact us on 07803 124768 or email us - [email protected] You don't have to be able to read music to be part of the choir, and we feel sure you'll enjoy it. Further information on the choir and its activities can be found on our website biddulphmvchoir.co.uk or join our Facebook group "Friends of Biddulph Male Voice Choir". A new Community Choir has also started in Biddulph, and it is looking for people to come along and join. Everyone attending will be sure of a big welcome This is a totally new venture and is under the leadership of Anthony Marks who is also the musical director of the Biddulph Male Voice Choir. The choir welcomes male and female members of all ages, backgrounds and personalities, and friendship and enjoyment are a big part of the choir ethos. Contrary to popular belief, you do not have to be able to read music, and as long as you can hold a tune you will be alright. The choir is also a non-audition choir, so you don't have to worry about looking silly if you forget the words. Numerous studies have found that singing as part of a choir has both Physical and Mental Health benefits on an individual. Singing will: 1. Improve your mood 2. Decrease stress, anxiety and depression. 3 . Increase levels of positive, feel good hormones. 4. Improve circulation and lung capacity. As well as the above benefits, singing with a group of people in a choir can give you a sense of belonging, the opportunity to build friendships, and the joy of being surrounded by like minded people. So what's not to like about coming along and giving it a try and banishing the Covid and winter blues. The choir meets every Thursday at Biddulph High School in Conway Road, Knypersley starting at 5.45 pm to 7.45pm. There is a weekly fee of £1 that goes toward music and the hire of the hall. So what are you waiting for? Come along and give us a try, we're sure you'll enjoy it.Got an opinion or something to share - why not have your words published on Nub News?
