Thanks to Biddulph Male Voice Choir for submitting this article! They've explained how they raised money for Prostate Cancer UK with a charity concert they held at the weekend...
On Saturday 21st May 2022, Biddulph Male Voice Choir started off their Centenary Year with a concert held at Congleton Town Hall to raise funds for their chosen charity Prostate Cancer UK.
The choir sang a full concert of both old and new songs and even one number that was requested on the night just to show their versatility.
The choir were extremely pleased to welcome Mr Phil Tearle from Prostate Cancer UK to their performance, and at the end of the evening he gave a short talk to the audience about the progress that was being made in relation to this disease, and how the monies raised by organisations was used to fund further research.
The money raised on the night was further bolstered by a generous donation from Audley Male Voice Choir who had heard of the concert, and held a collection at their practice night for the charity, proving yet again that friendliness and camaraderie still exists in the male voice choir world.
As a result of this a cheque for £500 was presented to Phil Tearle on the night, with approximately another £60 to be forwarded to them at a later date. A big 'thankyou' to all concerned!
The choir's next concert will be held at Biddulph Town Hall, on Saturday 18th June at 7.30 pm. This is a free concert given as a thankyou for the support of the community over the 100 years that the choir has been performing, and will also act as a memorial concert for the choir members lost during the Covid pandemic.
Tickets for this concert will be available from 8th June at Biddulph Town Hall, and Biddulph Library. Tickets can also be obtained via email at [email protected]
The choir rehearses each Wednesday night from 7pm to 9pm at Biddulph High School, and anyone who would like to be part of the choir would be given a warm welcome on these nights. You don't have to be able to read music to be part of the choir or undergo an embarrassing audition.
