A volunteer litter picker in Biddulph is on a campaign to reduce the amount of refuse being left around the town's walkways and green spaces, and has suggested how others can help to do their bit.
Local resident Derek Stubbs says he collects bags full of litter of every description every time he goes out, and is currently putting posters up in the windows of various local businesses to ask people to dispose of their litter more responsibly.
He explained that people can download an app that gives them a chance to win cash every time they submit evidence of themselves binning their rubbish.
He also suggested adding more public bins around the town to make it less tempting for people to chuck their litter on the floor.
Derek told Nub News: "I am a volunteer litter picker and weather permitting I pick up litter that has been deposited on the stretch of the Biddulph bypass from Sainsbury's supermarket roundabout to he roundabout on Congleton Road.
"On average I collect two large plastic bags every time and a lot of the litter is comprised of empty alcohol cans and bottles and dog poo bags.
"Litter appears to be a big problem in every community and I intend to visit every shop and fast food outlet in Biddulph to ask them to display a poster which promotes litter binning.
"It promotes an app which is available on Google Play and the Apple App Store which is called LitterLotto and rewards binning litter with prizes."
LitterLotto describes itself on its website as: "A free to enter prize draw, with regular spot prizes and huge jackpots, supported by brands who want a cleaner environment."
It explains: "To enter, simply use the app to take a picture of litter as you place it in a bin. Each time you submit a new piece of litter it's another chance to win!
"LitterLotto is available globally, with different Jackpot levels wherever you are!"
Derek added: "I have put posters in Sainsburys, local shops in the High Street, the Town Hall notice board display, B&M and Home Bargains.
"The individual photos that you see of litter are taken today within a 50 yard walk.
"The biggest problem appears to be drink and food containers and dog poop bags.
"There are various public benches on the bypass and if a litter bin was provided at each location it would probably reduce some of this litter."
