Biddulph mayor prepares to take on world's fastest zip line in aid of CRY charity
The mayor of Biddulph is gearing up to ride the world's fastest zip line to raise money for a local charity.
Next month Biddulph's mayor Cllr John Jones will be riding the Velocity 2 ride at Penrhyn Quarry near Bethesda in Wales.
The zip wire is over 1,500 metres long, and those who are brave enough to ride it can reach speeds of up to 100mph.
He will be completing the exhilarating ride to raise money for the mayor's charity, which is CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).
The charity has a special link to Biddulph through Jordan Burndred, a 17-year-old from the town who sadly passed away from a heart attack while swimming on holiday in Turkey in 2015.
A memorial fund in Jordan's memory was set up for CRY, with many events being held in Biddulph to raise money for the charity in the following years.
Cllr Jones spoke more about his fundraising plans at a meeting of Biddulph Town Council last night (Tuesday).
He said: "I'm doing a zipwire challenge on 22nd April for the mayor's charity, which is CRY.
"I will try and set up some kind of web page for giving, but I'm not technically brilliant at these sorts of things, so in the meantime if there is any money you would like to give please just email and I will make a list.
"It's for a great cause, so please dig deep."
An online fundraising page has not yet been set up, but those who would like to donate could contact Biddulph Town Council by emailing [email protected]
