Biddulph motorists' misery as five inch deep mega pothole causes carnage at Christmas
Biddulph residents have complained of damaged vehicles and Christmas disruption caused by a "horrendous" five inch deep pothole outside a local pub.
Motorists have been urged to be careful of the pothole on Congleton Road near the Mow Cop Inn pub in Mow Cop, with one resident reporting having to limp their car home at five miles per hour on Christmas Day after hitting the pothole.
Biddulph resident Joan Jackson talked about hitting the pothole on Christmas Day and the damage it caused to her vehicle.
She said: "For anyone driving over Mow Cop, please please be careful of the horrendous pot hole outside the Mow Inn pub.
"Both my tyres on the left hand side have popped and my alloy has cracked. I had to slowly drive my car at 5mph home on the dark country lanes just to get home on Christmas!
"When I was on my way back with my parents to take photos of the hole, I came across another car with their hazards on. The same happened to them too, both tyres on the left had popped.
"When going on the council's website it shows reports of this pot hole dating back to 9th December.
"I've reported it to the police as it's really dangerous but please be careful as I was only going 15mph."
She told Biddulph Nub News: "I reported it to the council but they replied saying it's non urgent, which I think is absolutely disgusting."
Joan also measured the pothole with her umbrella, and found that it was around five inches deep, as can be seen in the images above.
Other residents have since shared their own troubles with the pothole, with one saying: "I hit it yesterday, it made a right din and scared the kids."
Another commented: "You're not the only one to have had damage from it, one day on the way home from work I passed three cars all with hazards on who had bust their tyres."
While a third added: "Blew both my nearside tyres and damaged my alloys on this at 5pm last night. So frustrating."
Biddulph Nub News contacted Staffordshire County Council to find out more about their plans to get the pothole repaired.
The council sent a general statement regarding potholes but did not mention the specific pothole on Congleton Road.
David Williams, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Staffordshire County Council said: "We know that potholes are a concern to people and our highways crews make every effort to fix them as soon as possible. We do have a huge road network here in Staffordshire, with around 6,000km of roads and last year our crews fixed around 30,000 potholes.
"All reported road defects are inspected as soon as possible and assessed for their severity. Any defect which poses an immediate risk is dealt with as a priority, and we aim to repair dangerous potholes within seven days. Lesser priority repairs are carried out when resources are available.
"Anyone with concerns about potholes can report them on the MyStaffs App or at www.staffordshire.gov.uk."
