Biddulph Town Council is considering the restoration of 'Albert' - the war memorial at the intersection of John Street and Congleton Road.
The council says it is currently debating different schools of thought regarding the restoration, with discussions taking place around whether monuments should be allowed to age naturally, or kept in the condition they were in when they were first installed.
The council has also asked for residents to send in any pictures they may have of the memorial when its nose was fully intact, to give them a better idea of how a potential restoration might look.
A spokesperson for Biddulph Town Council said: "There are a number of different schools of thought with regard to restoration.
"Should we only carry out restoration that tackles health and safety concerns, letting monuments age naturally? Or, should we always seek to ensure that the original monument is maintained, as it was when it was erected?
"Either way, 'Albert' and the war memorial at St Lawrence's Church are due to be cleaned in the coming weeks.
"As we debate restoration further with lots of different agencies, we wondered whether anyone had a photograph of 'Albert' with his nose? Hopefully this would then give us an idea about what would be involved in a repair.
"If you do have an image, we would be so grateful if you could email it to [email protected] Thank you!"
