Staffordshire Moorlands District Council's Cabinet Member for Climate Change has praised a Biddulph village green as a "valuable asset" to local community and wildlife.
Cllr Porter recently joined Ellen Faulkner and Malcolm Wragg from The Friends of Newpool
Meadows to visit the Newpool Meadows village green in Biddulph. Ellen was part of the Newpool Meadows Action Group, who previously fought to get the beauty spot designated as a village green in order to save the area from the threat of housing developments. Now Ellen and a range of other volunteers work to cultivate local wildlife and plants on the green, and the area is also used as an educational spot for the town's schools to visit. Cllr Porter, who is the Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Biodiversity, is aiming to lead efforts across the district to restore nature and address the climate and biodiversity crises. Cllr Porter said: "A massive thanks to Ellen, Malcolm and the rest of the team for all the many hours of work they put into conserving Newpool Meadows all year round. "The village green is such a valuable asset to both the community and local wildlife in Knypersley. "I would encourage anyone locally who wants to do their bit to help restore nature to please contact them and get involved."Don't forget to sign up to our newsletter below!
