A man has been jailed for dangerous driving after another driver was hurt in a collision.

Craig Harley, 34, of High Lane, Brown Edge, was jailed for 16 weeks at North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Tuesday 26 July after admitting dangerous driving, being the driver of a vehicle driven dangerously and failing to provide his name and address.

Harley was also disqualified from driving for 18 months, ordered to pay court costs of £185 and a victim surcharge of £128.

The court heard how Harley drove along Station Road, Biddulph, at 5.55pm on 10 December 2021 before colliding with a Vauxhall Corsa.

The Corsa driver sustained bruising to his abdomen and torso.

When Harley realised officers were on their way, he reversed back along the road, crashing into a building and causing damage to it.

Two women attempted to stop Harley leaving the scene, but became trapped between the car door and the building while he tried to manoeuvre his vehicle away.

Harley then reversed at considerable speed along Station Road and onto High Street , where there were numerous members of the public, before making his escape.

He was later interviewed and subsequently charged.

Following sentencing on Tuesday, PC Joanne French, who was the officer in the case said: "Harley had a complete disregard for other road users and put lives at risk.

"We welcome the court's decision to jail Harley as well as ban him from driving, as our roads have no place for such dangerous and reckless behaviour."
