By-election could be held to fill Biddulph district councillor vacancy

A by-election could be held to fill a vacancy at Staffordshire Moorlands District Council for the position of a Biddulph ward councillor.
A notice was yesterday (Wednesday 27th June) posted on the district council's website to inform residents of a "casual vacancy in the office of councillor".
There is a vacancy for a district councillor in the Biddulph West ward following the death of the beloved Biddulph councillor and volunteer, Hilda Sheldon MBE.
A by-election to fill the vacancy could be held if certain conditions are met.
The notice explains that an election can be called by a request made in writing to the Council's Proper Officer by two electors from the Local Authority area.
The notice states: "Casual vacancy in the office of councillor.
"Notice is hereby given under Section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972 that a casual vacancy exists in the office of Councillor for the Biddulph West Ward of the Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.
"An election to fill the vacancy will be held on notice being given, by two local government electors for the area, to the undersigned, requesting an election to be held."
