Chance to de-stress with 'forest bathing' evening walk in Biddulph

By Jack Lenton 4th Aug 2022

A new 'forest bathing' evening walk at a Biddulph beauty spot is aiming to help local residents forget the stresses of life by immersing themselves in nature.

The walk is taking place at Biddulph Grange Country Park next Friday (12th August) from 6.30pm - 8.30pm.

But what is forest bathing?

The practice originated in Japan in the 1980s and is a form of meditation designed to help people take a break from technology and the responsibilities of modern life.

The walk is being delivered by Amanda, a "forest therapy guide, transformation coach and meditation teacher".

The event description says: "We will walk slowly through the woods as your guide, Amanda, shares a series of nature connection 'invitations' or exercises to support you with exploring all this nourishing practice has to offer. Helping you to slow down, switch off and become present so you can notice all the natural world has to offer you.

"The walk is lightly themed by the season and the energy of the full moon. Offering you a chance for self connection, connection with those gathered and to receive whatever you need on the day.

"Leave the woods at the end of the walk and head home soothed by nature to drift into a deep, restful sleep.

"You'll take away with you simple nature activities that you can continue to incorporate into your life to support your wellbeing, helping to balance the demands of modern life."

It adds that the benefits of forest-bathing can include:

  • reduces stress, depression & anxiety
  • improves focus, concentration & memory
  • reduces tiredness & recharges energy
  • improves the length & quality of sleep
  • reduces blood pressure & support metabolic disorders
  • boosts the immune system byincreasing NK cells
  • alleviates social isolation
  • increases creativity
