Disgust as bags of litter dumped at Biddulph conservation area

By Jack Lenton 7th Apr 2021

Volunteers and residents have reacted with disgust after bags of litter were dumped in the conservation area of a local village green.

Cans, plastic bags and even the remnants of a whole picnic were left at the Newpool Meadows Village Green's conservation area in Knypersley.

The images were posted to the village green's social media page over the weekend as volunteers questioned why those dumping the rubbish couldn't use the bins provided or take it home with them.

Posting a picture of a dumped bag of food, a spokesperson said: "Just wondering if there are any parents out there who's children may have left home with this bag of food yesterday?"

And reacting to more bags of waste left at the local beauty spot, they added: "Three bags of litter dropped since yesterday around the conservation area on Newpool Meadows. Why can't they use the bins provided or just take it home?"

The area was kept for residents to enjoy after volunteers previously fought to get the beauty spot designated as a village green in order to save the area from the threat of housing developments.

Now volunteers work to cultivate local wildlife and plants on the green, and the area is also used as an educational spot for the town's schools to visit.

Reacting to the dumped litter, one resident commented: "What gets me is that they go there for a picnic to appreciate the beauty and open space, then completely disrespect it."

Another added: "Absolutely disgusting, if they can carry it there then they can carry it back home."

While a third said: "Completely no shame, disgusting behaviour."

The littering comes a week after red pellets believed to be rat poison were left at the green.

Biddulph Nub News reported previously how police have warned residents of dangerous items being left at local parks and green spaces in the town.
