Elections 2021: Biddulph Conservative candidate Keith Flunder explains why you should vote for him

By Jack Lenton 4th May 2021

It's election time, and candidates all over the country are battling for the public's votes ahead of the big day on May 6th.

This also goes for Biddulph, where two seats at Staffordshire County Council are up for grabs - one in Biddulph North, and one in Biddulph South and Endon.

With the election getting closer by the day, we got in touch with all six Biddulph candidates to ask them to briefly explain in their own words why they think they deserve your vote.

Over the next few days, we will be posting their responses so you can read what they had to say and make your decision.

Next its the turn of Keith Flunder, who is standing in Biddulph South and Endon for the Conservative Party.

Along with fellow Conservative candidate Ian Lawson, Keith is one of Biddulph's two current county councillors.

He said: "My name is Keith Flunder, and I was privileged to represent the good people of Biddulph South and East, Brown Edge and Endon, plus other areas, as their County Councillor from 2017 until the current Election was announced.

"I live in the Moorlands and my family and I use the same roads, schools, libraries and healthcare services as my fellow residents. I really believe it is essential that the County Council helps to provide the right economic conditions to create and protect well paid jobs over the coming years in order to ensure that excellent health and social care and children services continue to be provided for all.

"It goes without saying that I would be honoured to once again be given the opportunity to represent the Electorate at the County Council, so that I may continue my work of bringing improvements to community and youth services, particularly as organisations re-establish their activities and services as the pandemic draws to a close. Also to improve the links between local Government, schools, the voluntary sector and the health services providers.

"I am passionate about supporting the green agenda and environmental projects to reduce CO2 emissions, also to represent local concerns about the road maintenance programme. I have listed 6 pledges in the election literature delivered across the division, which affect all those who live and work in Biddulph.

"I am proud that we have now completed the Brexit process, and if re-elected will strive to keep working with all levels of Government as I consider a stable economy, a safe path out of the pandemic and new trade deals outside the EU are going to be essential to reduce the impact on jobs and community services. As a local business man myself, running a laser, fireworks and special effects company, which, as can be imagined has been hard hit during the current pandemic, as have event and tourism industries and so many more.

"I am eager to return to my County Council duties, working in different ways having had all the experience of the past four years, including the All Party Working Groups, working with communities and businesses directly. I also served as the Chair of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council for two years, and my hope is that a hard working "hands on" Candidate will be returned to the County Council on 6th May enabling me to continue with my honest representation of the needs of the electorate - no false promises from me!"
