Families are being invited to take part in creative activities as part of this year's Staffordshire History Festival.

The festival is running online throughout September and October and has been organised by Staffordshire County Council's Libraries, Arts, Archive and Heritage Service.

Themes for this year include the Battle of Britain, Life on the Home Front during WWII, the Staffordshire Hoard, Black History Month and Local Places & Legends.

Activities include, videos, photo exhibitions, interesting facts, quizzes, crafts and activities for children. People can enjoy the activities by searching for #StaffsHistFest on social media.

The 'Creative Explorers' programme is designed for children & young people and is being led by professional artists.

Children are being encouraged to experiment with a range of activities to help them get creative and develop new skills, all whilst exploring the county's heritage.

Victoria Wilson, Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture at Staffordshire County Council said: "Being creative can be great fun and is a great skill, and we're really excited about getting children involved in this year's Staffordshire History Festival.

"As well as getting hands-on with creative activities and making things, families will also get the chance to learn about the county's history and heritage throughout the festival."

Staffordshire Creative Explorer Amelie Rose, aged 12 said: "I enjoy the different activities each week and thinking about how to be creative. I love experimenting with collage and photography and learning new things."

Victoria added: "Over the summer, Creative Explorers have enjoyed making their own comics, silly selfies, hanging mobiles and fantastic beasts based on their favourite book characters. The Staffordshire History programme promises lots more exciting and fun ways to express young people's creativity and will keep them occupied and learning over the next two months."

New activities will be posted on Saturdays at 10am throughout September and October with a special half term online workshop on Thursday 29th October 1-3pm where people can take part and meet the artists behind the programme.

People can find out more about the project, download activities for free and subscribe by email here.
