One of Biddulph's hottest weekends of the year was followed by an intense storm last night, with constant thunder and lightning illuminating the town for several hours.

In this gallery, we want to compile your best pictures of the storm for our readers to enjoy, so feel free to send them over and we will feature them here - with credit given to you, of course!

Another scorcher is already heating things up today, with high temperatures of around 29 degrees Celsius being experienced in the town.

However, rain is predicted for the next few days, with the possibility of more storms taking place early next week.

Why do storms happen after hot weather?

When warm moist air meets colder drier air, the warm air rises, the water vapor condenses in the air, and forms a cloud. As the water vapor condenses it releases heat, which is a form of energy. A large amount of the thunderstorm's energy comes from the condensation process that forms the thunderstorm clouds.

Take a look through our storm gallery above - we will keep adding more pictures as they are submitted, so check back later as more photographs are added!
