Hopes Biddulph road will no longer be used as a 'rat run' after upgrade

There are hopes that a Biddulph road will no longer be used as a 'rat run' after traffic lights on an alternative route were upgraded to ease traffic concerns.
The traffic lights at the junction between Station Road and Meadows way have been given a revamp, with a motion sensor being added to the lights to approaching traffic.
It means the lights will no longer be controlled by magnetic strips in the road, which caused concerns that residents having to wait for too long at the lights was leading motorists to instead use Dorset Drive as an alternative route.
Councillors have previously spoken in meetings to share concerns that Dorset Drive was being used as a 'rat run' to access Station Road and Meadows Way, rather than using the junction between Station Road and Meadows Way where the traffic lights are located.
Cllr Nigel Yates, representing the Biddulph West ward, is one of those hoping the lights will alleviate the 'rat run' concerns.
He said: "Pleased to see the upgrades on the Meadows Way bypass and Station Road have finally been completed to incorporate a motion sensor, and the lights themselves are now LEDs.
"They are working fine and no longer rely on the poorly positioned magnetic strips in the tarmac.
"Give them a try, and hopefully Dorset Drive will no longer be used as a rat run."
