Knypersley Cricket Club was forced to concede two of its games this weekend after one of their players tested positive for Coronavirus.

The club was due to play two games on Saturday, with the club's first 11 due to face Wood Lane Cricket Club's first 11.

In the second game of the day, Knypersley's second 11 would have played Stafford Cricket Club's second 11.

However, the Knypersley club made the tough decision to forfeit the two matches "as a precautionary measure" following the positive Covid-19 test.

A spokesperson for the club said: "We regret that we have had to concede both of our games today against Wood Lane Cricket Club and Stafford Cricket Club because of a positive Covid-19 test with one of our players.

"We have made the decision as a precautionary measure to keep people safe."

When asked why the club remained open despite the positive test, they added: "Because the player did not pick up the infection from the club and has not been in the club for more than 15 minutes since picking it up.

"West Midlands Public Heath gave the club the okay to stay open because of the measures they have in place."

The decision has since been received positively on social media, with members of the public praising the club's "prompt action".

Barlaston Cricket Club said: "We sincerely hope everyone is okay. Good luck in tracing everyone affected and fingers crossed that it is an isolated case."

Another social media user said: "Well done folks for your prompt action."

While a third added: "Hats off to you for coming straight out and telling us how it is. Hope the player gets better ASAP. Stay safe."

The club have two more games scheduled for next Saturday, both against Blythe Cricket Club.
