Volunteers and residents have reiterated their disgust as litter continues to be left in the conservation area of a local village green.

Bottles, cans, chocolate wrappers and even a dog food tin were dumped at the Newpool Meadows Village Green's conservation area in Knypersley.

Some of the rubbish was also left in the village green's pond, leaving volunteers with the job of wading into the water to clear it up.

The images were posted to the village green's social media page over the bank holiday weekend as volunteers wondered why those leaving their rubbish behind couldn't have more respect for the local beauty spot.

Posting a picture of the litter, a volunteer who helps to maintain the green said: "Looks like someone's had another party on Newpool Meadows, all the bottles thrown into the pond including a empty dog food tin. Wish they would take their litter home.

"I don't mind them partying but wish they would have a bit more respect and not throw their rubbish into the pond at the conservation area.

"It meant someone having to wade into the water to retrieve it. After all, they carried the bottles there so they could just have easily carried them away. There are three bins very close by."

Local residents have since voiced their objections to the continued littering on social media, with one saying: "What's wrong with this country - people don't seem to get taught to bin litter."

Another added: "This is a conservation area, all those who help to keep it clean and tidy are volunteers. It's disgraceful behaviour."

Biddulph Nub News reported in April how cans, plastic bags and even the remnants of a whole picnic were left at the conservation area in previous incidents of littering at the village green.

The area was kept for residents to enjoy after volunteers previously fought to get the beauty spot designated as a village green in order to save the area from the threat of housing developments.

Now volunteers work to cultivate local wildlife and plants on the green, and the area is also used as an educational spot for the town's schools to visit.
