Staffordshire County Council is aiming to recruit a lollipop person in Biddulph and other locations around the Moorlands and Staffordshire as part of a new campaign that aims to find 25 new crossing wardens.
The authority needs to find new crossing wardens for the new school year in September as around 10 percent of all the posts needed are currently not filled.
Three of the 25 positions needed to be filled are in the Moorlands, with one being in Biddulph. They would be stationed at Congleton Road, near the junction with Halls Road on the A479.
The remaining two Moorlands posts are in Cheadle, although there are also three more posts available in Kidsgrove.
Councillor Jonathan Price, cabinet member for education, said: "Crossing patrols do such important work in their communities and I know that those who do the job find it hugely rewarding, not least for the interaction with the children as they go to and from school.
"The uniform is provided to the successful applicants and we are keen to have people lined up ready for training at the beginning of September."
The crossing wardens are expected to work for between 45 minutes and an hour twice a day during term-time, depending on the locations, with the council explaining that the jobs are ideal for people trying to fit work round other commitments.
The roles pay £9.62 an hour and the distinctive uniform comes with the job. All applicants will have to undergo DBS checks as they will be working with children.
Mr Price added: "There are all kinds of people in our communities for whom being a school crossing patrol would be a perfect fit, whether it ties in with their lifestyle, or their desire to perform a valuable public service.
"No previous experience or formal skills are needed, though the ability to strike up a rapport with children, parents, drivers and teachers will be a great help."
