Plans to provide additional support to households on the lowest incomes are amongst the changes being proposed to the Council Tax Reduction Scheme - and Staffordshire Moorlands District Council now wants to hear what you think.

The scheme is for working age applicants in the Moorlands and other proposed changes include:

  • Making the scheme easier for residents to understand and access
  • Providing greater stability to those who receive support
  • Making the scheme work better with the Universal Credit award system
  • Reducing administration costs to, ultimately, prevent additional costs being added to Council Tax

Councillor Michael Worthington, Cabinet member for Finance, said: "We want to make this scheme easier for residents to both understand and access - and to offer additional support to those households on the lowest incomes.

"We're all having to manage our budgets to deal with the rising living costs so I'm sure many people will welcome this review and I would encourage people to go online and complete the consultation document to let us know their views.

"Paper copies are also available so you can still tell us what you think if you can't complete the document on the website."

Paper copies are available at Biddulph Town Hall, Cheadle Council Connect, Moorlands House in Leek and the Citizens Advice Bureau. Residents can also request a copy by calling 0345 605 3010.

Completed paper questionnaires need to be returned to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, PO Box 136, Buxton, SK17 1AQ.

The deadline for both online and paper responses is 25 November.

The Council Tax Reduction Scheme for people of pension age is a national scheme and is not affected by these proposals.
