Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has told residents to be on the lookout for automated calls.

The authority has been notified that some residents have been receiving the calls, which asked them to make council tax payments.

However, the council has warned residents that these calls are not legitimate, and advised residents to hang up if they are on the receiving end.

A council spokesperson said: "We've been made aware that some residents have received automated calls asking them to make payments to their council tax accounts - this is not us!

"If you receive a call like this just hang up!

"Please pass this message on to friends, family and neighbours."
