More pupils at Biddulph High School have been told to self isolate after two staff members tested positive for Coronavirus.

Biddulph Nub News reported last month how Year 9 students at the school were told to begin isolating at home immediately after a member of their year group tested positive for Coronavirus.

These students returned to school around two weeks ago, but now a different group of pupils have also been sent home following the positive tests of staff members.

Students who were "identified as a close contact" of the staff members have been told to self isolate until Friday, October 16th.

Biddulph High School's head teacher, Simon Ascroft, said in a letter to parents: "We have been advised by the Staffordshire Covid-19 local outbreak control team that two of our members of staff have received a positive Covid-19 test result. Your child has been identified as a close contact. I know that this will be a worrying time for you.

"In line with national guidance, your child must now stay at home and self-isolate. The date of return to school will be Friday, October 16th which is 14 days after contact.

"We are asking you to do this to reduce the further spread of Covid-19 to others in the community.

"This is being done with the intention of keeping the community as safe as possible. We will ensure that work is available via MS Teams for your child to complete while they are away from school."

Year 7 students at James Bateman Middle School are also now being taught remotely after the school recorded its own Coronavirus case.

A spokesperson for the Middle School said: "Today is a unique day. The first day of the future perhaps. For the first time we beam live to Year 7 using Google Classrooms.

"Thank you for your supportive comments as we embark on a new era of teaching with technology. It's all so new for us all but it's also an exciting opportunity."
