Moorlands organisations have benefited from over £400,000 in funding from the National Lottery so far in 2021, it has been revealed.

Moorlands MP Karen Bradley has thanked the National Lottery for their funding, which is currently at a total of £425,949 for the year.

A large chunk of the funding was given to Home-Start Staffordshire Moorlands, a charity that offers support, friendship and practical help to parents with young children. They received £239,870 of National Lottery funding.

Home-Start Staffordshire Moorlands will use its funding over 3 years to deliver outreach family support to parents and their children (aged 0–4) in the Staffordshire Moorlands. Parents supported are on a low income and have experienced past trauma and vulnerabilities (e.g. bereavement, social services involvement, including parents being in care when they were children, and domestic violence).

The funding is being distributed by The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK, which distributes money raised by National Lottery players. National Lottery players raise £36 million each week for good causes throughout the UK.

Information about how to apply for funding can be found at The National Lottery Community Fund's website.

Karen said: "Since January, The National Lottery Community Fund has awarded £425,949 to community projects in the Moorlands and it is heartening to see how many community groups have benefited. These groups are inspirational in the great work and support they provide to local people and their community through what have been some extremely difficult times."

Elly De Decker, England Director at The National Lottery Community Fund, said: "I am incredibly proud that we have awarded almost £200 million across England so far this year, responding to needs and changes in our communities brought on by the pandemic.

"We know that people care about issues including employment and employability, supporting young people, supporting the vulnerable and creating better connections within communities to tackle loneliness.

"It's fantastic to see that this funding, raised by National Lottery players, is having a significant impact on people's lives across the country, helping to build back stronger communities."
