New local radio station set to broadcast from Biddulph Town Hall

By Jack Lenton 23rd Feb 2021

A brand new radio station is set to launch in March, broadcasting live from Biddulph Town Hall.

The station is made up by volunteers from the community, with some who have a little or no radio experience, to some who have years of professional broadcasting experience.

Churnet Sound will be broadcasting online, via the dedicated smartphone app or via your smart speaker.

The station will be open to all and one of the main aims will be to give community organisations in the area a voice to promote their work and any fundraising they are doing.

Once restrictions allow, the station will aim to be out in the community as much as possible, being all inclusive and working actively in the most rural areas of the community where social isolation is at its highest.

The station has also been in discussions with local schools to see how it can help support learning and activities that the schools are involved with.

The programming on the station will cover a wide basis. The daytime shows will focus on local talk and news alongside the greatest hits from the 60s up until today's top 40.

In the evening the station will play a variety of specialist shows from country, northern soul and a show discussing LGBT issues both in the local area and internationally.

Churnet Sound has also placed its thanks on record to all at Biddulph town hall and to the town council for their amazing support.

A spokesperson said: "The board of directors is very proud of the amazing work all the volunteers are doing.

"We can't wait to bring some fantastic programming to the Staffordshire Moorlands. We would also like to thank all the team at Biddulph town hall and the town council for their support."
