Planning permission refused for construction of new Park Lane, Biddulph home

A planning application to build a new home on Park Lane, Knypersley has been refused by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.

A Mr Julian Abbott applied to the council for permission to construct a new house and vehicular access at 246A Tree Tops at Park Lane.

A planning statement prepared on behalf of the applicant by Robert Berry Architectural Services argued that the home would not harm the "character" of the surrounding area.

It said: "The layout has been determined to make the most efficient use of the site whilst also ensuring that the character and amenity of the locality is not compromised.

It added: "In the immediate vicinity of the site the dwellings are a mixture of styles being of a traditional simple architectural style comprising tiled pitched roofs set above either rendered or red brick walls.

"The design seeks to create a dwelling that seeks to reflect and reinforce the character of the varied property designs in the area but expressing it in a modern contemporary way.

"The dwelling retains retains the general proportions and design of properties in the area."

Biddulph Town Council had recommended the application for approval, however, the district council's planning officers refused the application on the grounds that it was considered to be in a rural area, with the house representing unacceptable development for the area.

A decision report by the council's officers stated: "The proposed dwellinghouse does not comprise a form of housing development that is considered acceptable with the other rural areas."
