Plans submitted to convert Biddulph dwelling into children's care home

By Jack Lenton 30th Sep 2021

Plans have been submitted to expand a children's care home in Biddulph by converting part of a building on the site.

The plans were submitted to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council by Esland Care, and relate to Meadowstile Farm on Tower Hill Road in Brown Lees, Biddulph.

The site is already in use as a children's home providing "specialist residential care" for up to two young people.

However, plans have now been submitted to care for more young people by converting part of a building on the site.

The proposal reads: "Proposed change of use from C3b dwelling to C2 residential care."

A planning statement made on behalf of the applicant by AM Planning Consultants reads: "Meadowstile Farm is a registered childrens home... to provide specialist residential care for up to 2 young people, of either gender, usually between 8 and 18 years old."

The care home provides support for children who are struggling with issues such as mental health or learning difficulties.

The statement adds: "The age of the child who would be provided care in the home would be between 8-18 years old, with two sleep-in carers supporting the children at any one time.

"A manager will be on the site during office hours Monday-Friday; whilst communication between the manager and staff teams is also achieved through the use of Microsoft Teams and other remote communication technologies.

"The overall number of staff would increase to 10 operating a 24 - 48 hours shift rota, plus the Manager. Two of the staff would sleep in overnight."

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council will have the final say on the plans at a later date.
