Storm Barra's impact could see gusts over 50mph hitting the Moorlands this week.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for wind across the region and motorists have been urged to take care on the roads with the potential for trees to be felled and falling debris.
Travellers are also being asked to check before they embark on trains, with revised timetables in place for some services to take account of speed restrictions.
Rain is also predicted for the remainder of today and tomorrow, before a brief dry spell on Thursday and the return of rain going into the weekend.
The Met Office says the effects of the latest storm will not be as bad as Storm Arwen, which hit the country last week (November 28/29). But there will be disruption to the travel network and snow and heavy rain in some areas until tomorrow.
Gusts of 70mph have already been recorded in Devon and in Aberdaron in North West Wales wind speeds have reached 69mph.
