Homes were left without power and several events due to take place were cancelled as Storm Eunice brought heavy winds to Biddulph today (Friday 18th February).

Homes in the Hurst Road area experienced a power cut after the gale brought down a tree, which landed on power lines providing electricity to homes on the road.

One Hurst Road resident commented on social media: "Power out on Hurst Road, don't think it's just us. Can see a farmer moving bits of tree, could well be related!"

They later added: "There's a tree down that's brought the powerlines down by the farm. Tree has now been moved, but who knows when power will be back!"

Several events that were supposed to take place today have also had to be cancelled due to the poor weather conditions.

Biddulph Youth and Community Zone had to cancel their regular Friday night Youth Club because of Storm Eunice.

A spokesperson for The Zone said: "Sorry we have cancelled tonight's Youth Club due to the weather conditions . See you Monday."

Popular tourist attraction Biddulph Grange Gardens were also closed today. A spokesperson said: "Biddulph Grange Garden is closed today, Friday 18th February, due to high winds."

Nub News reported previously how a weather warning issued for Biddulph and many other parts of the country was upgraded from yellow to amber as the Met Office predicted the storm to become more severe.

A yellow weather warning for ice is also in place for Biddulph tonight until tomorrow morning (Saturday 19th February).

Weather warnings for wind and rain are in place for other parts of the country for the rest of the weekend, but Biddulph is not included in these.
