These are Staffordshire's top 10 most borrowed cookery e-books

By Jack Lenton 3rd Dec 2020

Staffordshire County Council's library service has revealed its most popular cookery e-books.

With restaurants and hospitality businesses closed during the first and second lockdowns, people have been turning to cookery e-books for inspiration and ideas on home cooking.

Topping the list is Ottolenghi Simple by Yotam Ottolenghi, author of seven best-selling cookery books. Popular TV chefs Joe Wicks and Jamie Oliver took the next two spots with their quick fire recipe books, Joe's 30 Minute Meals and Jamie's 15 Minute Meals.

Vegetarian and vegan cookery also make the top ten e-books with Green Roasting Tin by Rukmini Iyer and Greenfeast by Nigel Slater.

Since the first lockdown in March, over 50,000 e-books have been loaned with the number of people using the service through BorrowBox increasing to more than 6,500.

Victoria Wilson, Cabinet Member responsible for Libraries at Staffordshire County Council said: "We know it's been challenging for people during both lockdowns but it's great to see that our libraries e-book borrowing service is helping people stay healthy by learning to cook new recipes.

"Food and cookery books have always been a popular choice amongst our readers and we have a great range on offer. They're a great way to not only improve your cooking skills, but also to be able to produce more healthy and nutritious meals for the family.

"So whether its fast meals by Jamie or Joe, or more complicated dishes for the more adventurous chefs amongst us, we'll have an e-book for you."

The top ten most borrowed e-books from 22 March 2020 are:

  1. Ottolenghi Simple by Yotam Ottolenghi
