An anonymous local hero who rescued a little girl from Knypersley Reservoir has been urged to come forward by local residents, and receive his well-earned praise.

The unknown young man jumped into the local reservoir to rescue the girl, who had fallen into the body of water whilst walking the family dog with her mum.

In a post on social media, the rescued girl's mother extended her thanks, saying the act of kindness had helped to show young people in a positive light.

The post has since had a huge response, receiving over 800 'likes' and over 100 comments at the time of writing.

She said: "Thank you to the lad (I never got your name) who jumped in Knypersley Pool and got my little girl out.

"She was walking the dog and whilst running she went in. I really hope this message finds you.

"I just wanted to say a big thank you. She's ok, a little wet and cold and was worried about her trainers, but thanks to you she's ok - you didn't think twice to go in after her.

"There's a lot of negative comments about youths of today, but this one is definitely a positive."

Residents have since commented in their droves to praise the unnamed person for his bravery, and encouraged him to come forward and receive their thanks.

One commented: "What a super young man. I hope you find out who your rescuer was."

Another said: "Love this. Hope your little girl is ok and the boy gets the praise he deserves."

While a third added: "How blooming lovely and brave. What a hero. I hope his parents see this post. And just glad your little girl is safe."

In a follow-up comment, the girl's mother also added that she would like to find out who the young man was, and reassured people that her daughter was okay.

She added: "Thankyou for all the comments. My daughter is fine. I'm not one for social media.

"Only posted so I could try and find the lad who jumped in. He definitely was a hero yesterday."
