Up Close is an interview series for Biddulph Nub News, talking to local people about their businesses, hobbies, or anything else they want to chat about!

In the latest instalment of Up Close we spoke to Biddulph's Charlotte Garner, author of Canine Contentment - The Essential Guide.

Charlotte's new book teaches people how to ensure their dogs are living happy and fulfilling lives, including tips on training methods, diet, body language and communication with your pooch.

Read the interview below...

How many dogs do you have, what are their names and breeds?

"I have four Border Collies, called Sky, Tizzy, Inka and Delta."

Are you a canine author as your job, or is it more of a hobby? Do you work with dogs in any other ways too?

"This is the first book I have written and I will hopefully do more in the future, though this is not my job.

"I currently run The Natural Snack Pack selling natural dog treats and eco friendly dog products."

Why do you love dogs?

"I love dogs because they are a constant source of companionship and they bring so much joy to my life.

"I honestly can't imagine life without a dog (or four) in it!"

What made you decide to write the book? Is it the first book you have written or have you written any others?

"I have always wanted to write a book but I never really had the time until this latest lockdown so I could give it my full attention.

"I wanted to share my experience with my own dogs, as well as my professional experience of working with dogs, in order to help other dog lovers and owners understand their own dogs better."

What's your book about - what can people learn from it and who would you recommend it to?

"My book is about how to achieve complete contentment with your own dog.

"I believe in a wholesome approach to doing so, instead of just focussing on one aspect of your dogs life.

"Many aspects make up your dogs happiness so if you are lacking something in a certain area it often has a knock on affect to other areas of their life."

What methods do you use on your dogs in particular to make sure they are feeling content?

"I write about positive reinforcement training within the book and this is how I teach my own dogs everything they need to know about navigating our confusing human world successfully."

What are your plans for the future - do you have any more books or dog related plans?

"I hope to write further canine related books in the future and I am sure whatever life has planned for me next will be sure to involve dogs somehow!"

Is there anything else you would like to add?

"The book can be purchased directly via Amazon, or I can be contacted on Facebook at Charlotte Garner - Canine Author or Instagram @charlottegarnercanineauthor
