Gallery: Biddulph's best gardens on show in local competition

By Jack Lenton 6th Jul 2020

Biddulph was at its blooming best this weekend after the town's best gardens were showcased in the "Over The Garden Gate" competition.

Local residents were encouraged to enter their gardens into the competition as a means of spreading some lockdown cheer, and the people of Biddulph certainly delivered with a range of stunning gardens on display.

Due to the lockdown rules, judges were not able to enter the entrants' gardens, meaning they had to be visible from over the garden gate, giving the competition its name.

The competition was organised by local Cllr Jill Salt, and kindly sponsored by Biddulph Town Council.

Cllr Salt said: "Thanks to all those who entered. The standard was exceptional and we'll find it very difficult to choose our winners!"

Judging took place on Saturday, 4th July, with gardens being entered into the following categories:

  • Best hanging baskets
  • Best potted plants
  • Best borders
  • Best lawn
  • Best display of children's gardening
  • Best garden in show across each of the five ward areas
  • Best garden in show for the whole town

The winners will be notified today (Monday) and tomorrow after the judges have discussed the entries in a Zoom meeting, with prizes being awarded to all category winners.
