Biddulph Nub News reported yesterday (Monday) how the town was at its blooming best this weekend, with the area's best gardens being showcased in the "Over The Garden Gate" competition.

The results have now been announced, with the winning entrants being named for each category.

Local residents were encouraged to enter their gardens into the competition as a means of spreading some lockdown cheer, and the people of Biddulph certainly delivered with a range of stunning gardens on display.

Due to the lockdown rules, judges were not able to enter the entrants' gardens, meaning they had to be visible from over the garden gate, giving the competition its name.

The competition was organised by local Cllr Jill Salt, and kindly sponsored by Biddulph Town Council.

Judging took place on Saturday, 4th July, and the winners were notified yesterday after the judges held a Zoom meeting to decide on the best submission for each category.

The winning entrants are as follows:

  • Best Garden In Show and Best Lawn - Sue Nicklin
  • Best Pots - Elaine Rice
  • Best Children's - Etta Gordon
  • Best Baskets - Martin Hornsby
  • Best Borders - Amanda Dunn

Outstanding garden prizes were also awarded to:

  • Brian Synowiec
  • Wendy Caruso
  • Dot Percy
  • Sue Bowyer
  • Sidney Gratton

Cllr Salt commented: "Congratulations and thanks to all those who entered."
