Biddulph residents have reacted with anger after a walk-in vaccination clinic in the town was apparently cancelled at the last minute, leaving residents queuing outside in almost freezing temperatures.
Staffordshire County Council informed residents on its website on Friday that Covid-19 vaccines would be available without an appointment at a walk-in clinic in Biddulph today (Monday 29th), and following this, this information was also reported on Nub News.
However, when residents arrived at Biddulph Fire Station, the venue of the clinic, earlier today, they found no vaccine clinic was taking place after all, despite queueing outside for one in the freezing cold.
The clinic was supposed to be open to anybody aged 12-15 years old in need of a first dose of the vaccine, anybody aged 16 and over in need of their first or second doses, and anybody eligible for their booster dose.
Despite this it appears that the clinic was cancelled at the last minute due to the weather, without residents being properly informed of this cancellation.
One resident told Nub News: "There are 20 people queuing outside and no-one is here at the fire station."
Another added: "Went to the fire station this morning, annoying that there was nobody there to give the vaccine.
"People were waiting and phoning places to find out what had happened - very disappointing as it's difficult to get the vaccine in Biddulph."
Biddulph Nub News contacted Staffordshire County Council for comment.
A spokesperson said: "We regularly promote clinics run by the NHS, and we understand that this was cancelled by the NHS due to weather issues. This cancellation was publicised as soon as possible, but we are sorry if people turned up."
An update informing residents of the cancellation was still never posted on the authority's website.
