Biddulph 15-year-old is jiu-jitsu world champion after clean sweep at tournament

By Jack Lenton 11th Jul 2022

A teenager from Biddulph accomplished an incredible achievement this weekend - becoming the Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion for both his age and rank after putting in a great performance at a tournament.

15-year-old Lukus Meakin competed in the Brazilian jiu-jitsu junior world championships in Wolverhampton over the weekend.

He won both his matches by submission becoming the world champion for his age and rank.

Lukus trains in Biddulph at Bedlam Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, located at the Victoria Business Park off Tunstall Road, and he is also a pupil at Biddulph High School.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a martial art and combat sport based on ground fighting and submission holds.

Often referred to as BJJ, it focuses on the skill of taking an opponent to the ground, gaining a dominant position, and using a number of techniques to force them into submission via joint locks or chokeholds.

Congratulations to Lukus - we are sure there will be plenty more achievements to come in the future!
