Biddulph Boxing Gym reopens tomorrow as lockdown easing continues

By Jack Lenton 17th Aug 2020

Boxing fans can finally return to practising their right hooks from tomorrow, as Biddulph Boxing Gym returns to its indoor training sessions.

The gym has recently been running its training sessions outdoors to prevent the risk of Coronavirus, but have now announced that they will be moving back to their usual indoor sessions at Biddulph Youth and Community Zone from Tuesday, 18th August.

The gym is now hoping to "get back to normality" as lockdown restrictions continue to gradually ease around most parts of the country.

A spokesperson said: "Everyone's been asking, and we can now tell you that Biddulph Boxing Gym is is opening back up inside the Biddulph Youth and Community Zone on Tuesday.

"If you're going to come can you please message and let me know as I can only allow a certain number of people in - blame Boris for this!

"Sadly guidelines are guidelines and we have to stick to these, so please drop us a message or comment on this status and I'll pencil you in the diary.

"Let's get back to what we do best - being a local boxing family - and get back to a bit of normality."

The gym was set up by friends and local boxers James Biddulph and Ray Bennett in the hopes of giving Biddulph's young people a positive environment to train, socialise and learn.

Since its opening, the gym has gone from strength to strength, and is now one of the town's most popular community groups.

The boxing gym's announcement comes after gyms around the country were allowed to reopen from 4th July as the Prime Minister gave more detail around his plans for the easing of restrictions.

This weekend saw more restrictions being lifted, with the likes of beauty salons, bowling alleys, casinos and soft play areas being allowed to reopen, as well as live sports events and theatres being trialled with social distancing.
