The 100th anniversary of the unveiling of Biddulph's war memorial, Albert, was commemorated at a special ceremony at the weekend.

The original service from 29th April 1922, when the memorial was first unveiled in the town, was recreated on Sunday (1st May).

There was hymn singing from Biddulph Male Voice Choir and a cry from Biddulph's Town Crier, John Robinson.

Prayers were also read out and there were wreaths laid at the base of the memorial.

The 100th anniversary of the memorial first being unveiled will also be celebrated in an event on Thursday 5th May at 2pm.

The free event is being held at Biddulph Town Hall and will include free refreshments and a presentation by the Biddulph and District Genealogy and Historical Society.

Nub News reported recently how Biddulph company Variclean were brought in to clean the memorial, which gave it a new lease of life ahead of its 100th birthday.
