The Biddulph war memorial - Albert - was given a good clean recently ahead of his upcoming 100th birthday.
Biddulph company Variclean were brought in to clean the memorial and the difference is striking - just flick through the pictures at the top of this article to see how much cleaner Albert looks now.
The 100th anniversary of the memorial first being unveiled is coming up and will be celebrated in an event on Thursday 5th May at 2pm.
The free event is being held at Biddulph Town Hall and will include free refreshments and a presentation by the Biddulph and District Genealogy and Historical Society.
Also this Sunday (1st May) the town council will be recreating the original service from 29th April 1922 at 11am.
Biddulph Male Voice Choir will be performing and there will be free refreshments at the town hall afterwards.
A spokesperson for Variclean explained more about the cleaning process for Albert.
They said: "Following on from our well received spruce up of Biddulph Town Hall and footpaths we were asked to clean the Albert memorial for his 100th birthday this year.
"As a Biddulph business we considered this responsibility a great honour and privilege. Work was carried out on a Easter Sunday to minimise disruption.
"After the scaffold was erected Albert was gently softwashed four times using soft brushes and products designed for limestone, then the names of the brave were polished. Then finally we applied an affective biocide to discourage further growth of lichen algae and moss.
"On behalf of the residents of Biddulph we wish you a happy 100th birthday Sir."
